Community Ed | Area Learning Center Community Education's After School Activities program has a wide variety of academic and enrichment classes for youth in grades K-8, including: tutoring, academic skills development, dance, languages, cooking, sports, hobbies, games, and computers. Most classes run after school and are low-cost or free. The Area Learning Center's K-8 programs provide after-school programming in the areas of math, literacy, and science for students needing additional gains in academics. The high school offerings serve as are credit recovery programs.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) AVID is a college preparatory program for students in grades 9-12 who demonstrate promise and potential. Students may apply for AVID at any point during the first three years of high school. PREREQUISITE: Application, Interview and Selection Process. The AVID program consists of key components to prepare students for acceptance to and success in four-year colleges and universities. The components include intensive writing practice, strategies for success, tutorials, and college visits.

CPEO (Connecting Parents to Educational Opportunities) CPEO is a seven-week curriculum-based program designed for parents; bringing schools, parents and community together as equal partners in the education of students, offered during the evening with free food and childcare. CPEO provides parents with the necessary tools and skills to develop strong and positive home-school partnerships that build trusting relationships for supporting the academic achievement of students. Financial aid support (U of M/Mpls. Community & Technical College) is available (if the student qualifies for a Pell grant) for students who graduate from MPS and whose parents complete the program.

FLCC (Family Learning Child Care) FLCC is an on-site child care service for student parents. In order to be eligible for services, parents must be enrolled and attending Minneapolis Public Schools. Parents may apply for placement in the child care during weekly registration periods. Parents are required to re enroll each school year. The program serves children ages 6 weeks to 6 years.

Minneapolis Kids Minneapolis Kids is a program that offers childcare for school-age children of working and student parents within the school setting. The program includes High Five, kindergarten through sixth grades, and children with special needs. Most sites offer care 11.5 hours a day, 12 months a year, enabling parents to coordinate individual work and school schedules.
