Government Relations

The Office of Government Relations represents the interests of the Minneapolis Public Schools before:

• The Minnesota Legislature;
• The Executive branch, from the Governor's Office to executive agencies; and
• Minnesota's Congressional delegation.

Our Goal

Secure the public policy reforms and resources needed to ensure that all students learn.

Get Involved

Join the MPS Parent Legislative Action Committee, open to all parents and community members. You will receive updates and calls-to-action with detailed, specific requests to reach out to Governor Walz and local legislators. Email Josh Downham or fill out this five-question form to get involved. 

At the December 2022 Board meeting, the MPS Board of Education adopted the 2023 legislative agenda. MPS is working with Governor Walz, the MN Department of Education and lawmakers to get these important proposals adopted into law.  If you have questions about any of the items on the legislaitve agenda, please reach out to Josh Downham at josh.downham@mpls.k12.mn.us.
